A British Catholic priest has been arrested in Kosovo, five years after fleeing the U.K. following allegations of child sex abuse.
Father Laurence Soper was arrested in the town of Peja for failing to post bail in 2011. He had fled a year earlier after after a man in his 40s accused the priest of abusing him as a child, ITV News reported.
The allegations against Soper, who is now in his 70s, date to when the priest taught at St. Benedict’s School in London. He is believed to have been in Rome in the fall of 2011 when a European arrest warrant was issued.
Locals in Peja said the priest was known as Andrew Soper and told his neighbors he was writing a book, The Guardian reported.
Following the initial allegation against Soper, four additional men have claimed they were abused by the priest at the Benedictine school. The majority of the allegations date to the 1970’s and 19
No wonder his gay son was so conflicted about his sexuality. His culture and his family are completely homophobic.
The father of the Orlando shooter said early Monday that his son shouldn’t have killed patrons at the gay nightclub Pulse because God will punish them, The Washington Post reported.
“God himself will punish those involved in homosexuality,” Seddique Mateen said in Dari, speaking in a video posted to Facebook early Monday, per the Post’s translation.
Pope slams culture of “perfect” people shunning the disabled
Welcome to Hypocrisy 101. Please find a seat and pay attention.
According to the Associated Press, Pope Francis scathingly decried the pursuit for perfect bodies on Sunday, saying such obsession leads to society hiding away the disabled to avoid offending sensibilities of what he termed “the privileged few.”
The hypocrisy got even thicker when he pope decried the rationale that it is better to keep disabled people “apart, in some ‘enclosure’ — even a gilded one — or in ‘islands’ of pietism or social welfare, so that they do not hold back the pace of a false well-being.
That’s odd, because the bible explicitly tells people to shun the disabled and the imperfect in Leviticus 21:
Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Speak to Aaron, saying, ‘No man of your offspring throughout their generations who has a defect shall approach to offer the food of his God.
‘For no one who has a defect shall approach: a blind man, or a lame man, or he who has a disfigured face, or any deformed limb, or a man who has a broken foot or broken hand, or a hunchback or a dwarf, or one who has a defect in his eye or eczema or scabs or crushed testicles.
Honestly, it makes you wonder if the Pope has ever read his own bible.
If your Hypocrisy-O-Meter is as sensitive as mine, then the needle probably blew out the side of the case, escaped Earth’s orbit, and knocked a chunk out of one of Saturn’s rings on its way to Deep Space.
Parish priest Gareth Jones, 36, screamed: ‘I have diplomatic immunity’ as he punched, kicked, bit and spat at a police officer and a paramedic who found him passed out in his clerical frock in Covent Garden, central London.
When paramedic Ian Pollock gently shook the passed-out pastor at 2.30am to check he was alright, he awoke and growled: ‘I am going to fuck you up.‘
Jones threatened to attack Mr Pollock but was unable to stand up due to his inebriated state.
He had downed three bottles of wine, several pints of beer, a number of gin and tonics and a large quantity of vodka.
Jones told officers he had been drinking at El Vino and The George on Fleet Street before heading to a nightclub in Soho, adding: “I am utterly ashamed and sorry for any harm that I have caused.”
Today he appeared at Highbury Magistrates’ Court wearing a black suit jacket over a white shirt and blue tie as he pleaded guilty to two counts of assault by beating.
The court heard that Jones has previous convictions for communicating a false bomb hoax, affray, possession of cannabis, fraud, criminal damage, and driving matters, all before he was 21 years old.
Jones will have to face an ecclesiastical court which may impose a lifetime ban on him serving the church after his conviction.
District Judge Robin McPhee ordered Jones to pay £700 in fines, £200 compensation to PC Fletcher, £200 compensation to Mr Pollock, as well as £85 prosecution costs and a £35 victim surcharge.
The queen of the world’s first mega-sized “prosperity gospel” empire bilked millions of people out of their last few dollars during her 40+ year reign as the Chief Scamstress of the Trinity Broadcasting Network, TBN.
With her late husband Paul, Jan Crouch transformed Christianity into a powerful and profitable global business with nearly $1 billion in net assets.
Jan Crouch, co-founder of one of the world’s largest Evangelical Christian broadcasting networks, died early Tuesday of a massive stroke. She was 78, and was bogged down in what was described as “a painfully public civil war” within her family, which controlled the religious broadcasting corporation.
Son Brandon Crouch and his sisters, Brittany Crouch Koper and Carra Crouch, hadn’t seen Jan Crouch because of the family’s brutal infighting. Both sisters are suing Trinity.
Carra Crouch alleges that she was plied with alcohol and raped by a TBN employee in Atlanta when she was just 13 – and that her family covered up the incident rather than report it to authorities, to protect TBN’s reputation.

ALBANY — Not leaving it to divine chance, the state Catholic Conference has turned in recent years to some of Albany’s most well-connected and influential lobby firms to help block a bill that would make it easier for child sex abuse victims to seek justice.
The Catholic Conference, headed by Timothy Cardinal Dolan, has used Wilson Elser Moskowitz Edelman & Dicker, Patricia Lynch & Associates, Hank Sheinkopf, and Mark Behan Communications to lobby against the Child Victims Act as well as for or against other measures.
All told, the conference spent more than $2.1 million on lobbying from 2007 through the end of 2015, state records show. That does not include the conference’s own internal lobbying team.
Filings show the lobbyists were retained, in part, to work on issues associated with “statute of limitations” and “timelines for commencing certain civil actions related to sex offenses.” Other issues included parochial school funding and investment tax credits.
“They are willing to spend limitless money in order to basically keep bad guys from being accountable for their actions,” said Melanie Blow, chief operations officer of the Stop Abuse Campaign. “I think they’re doing it because they don’t want to have to pay out settlements.”
Added Kathryn Robb, an advocate and survivor who says she was abused by her brother as a 9-year-old: “If they need to spend that much money on lobbying, clearly, then, they have some pretty big secrets to hide.”
While a far cry from the millions in lobbying top special interests spend in Albany each year, advocates for child sex abuse survivors say the $2.1 million spent likely represents a worthwhile investment to the Catholic Conference if it can continue to block legislation that would eliminate the statute of limitations on child sex abuse civil cases and open a one-year window to bring lawsuits for victims who can no longer sue under current law.
The Catholic Conference has argued that opening a one-year window to revive old cases could ultimately bankrupt the Church.
The firms the Catholic Conference chose is also telling.
Wilson Elser has long been Albany’s biggest lobbying firm. The firm represented the Catholic Conference from at least 2007 through the end of 2015 and was paid more than $1 million during that time, according to online filings with the state Joint Commission on Public Ethics.
